Black Duck Named “Best New Workplace” by Leading Real Estate Association
New England Chapter of CoreNetGlobal Honors Transformational Design Elements
Burlington, MA, October 18, 2013 – Black Duck Software, the trusted partner for open source software adoption, management, and governance, has been named “Best New Workplace” in the less than 50,000 square foot category by the New England Chapter of CoreNet Global. Black Duck received a 2013 Award of Excellence at the chapter’s annual gala.
“We’re honored to be recognized for our efforts to reinvent Black Duck’s workplace,” said Ken Goldman, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Black Duck. “When we made the decision to move to a new building, it was about more than just physical space. For us, this was about jump-starting the next phase of the company.”
To accomplish that goal, Black Duck leaders worked with architect partner Spagnolo Gisness & Associates to emphasize open space and collaboration in the office layout.
Reflecting the company's focus on software and technology, the new office space boasts walls featuring binary code running 45 feet around doors, in-between fire alarms and into new spaces. It offers employees and visitors an opportunity to write down and decode all 8,000 characters – and reinforces an open, shared identity.
“Having a more collaborative environment allows us really live the open source ethos and cultivate social creativity," said Tammi Pirri, Vice President, Human Resources. “The space speaks to our culture of sharing, building upon others’ ideas, and working together in new and exciting ways. It’s something we can all be proud of.”
