Open source software is provided under a diverse set of licenses which set the critical terms for use and redistribution of code. At the same time adoption is growing with over 85% of companies currently using open source software. There have been many high profile lawsuits, making it even more important for companies using open source to be aware of their obligations. This series will assist companies in understanding the legal issues surrounding these licenses and the best practices in meeting the legal obligations. For the second year running, Black Duck has teamed up with two of the open source industry's legal heavy weights, Karen Copenhaver, partner at Choate Hall & Stewart and Counsel for the Linux Foundation and Mark Radcliffe, partner at DLA Piper and General Counsel for the Open Source Initiative (OSI), to deliver a legal Webinar series that will address a range of issues from the basics of open source licensing to more advanced topics on open source management, strategy and best practices. View the speaker bio's. Each Webinar will be presented live and then archived for future viewing. Please note CLE credit is not available for viewing the archived presentations. |

The purpose of the meeting was to identify key legal issues that will impact the development and adoption of free and open source software in 2010 and beyond. #2 Webinar: The Impact of Virtualization Technology on Open Source License Obligations Date/Time: Monday, March 29th @ 2pm ET - 11am PT Details: As virtualization technology becomes widespread, it raises many issues with respect to software licensing. The notions of location (where is software running), hardware and software (what system, CPU, O/S things run on) are made ambiguous or even meaningless. With respect to open source software, the questions of distribution and aggregate work are raised anew, as is the very practical question of how to provide notices in a virtual world. In this Webinar, presented by Black Duck Software with Karen Copenhaver, partner at Choate Hall & Stewart and Counsel for the Linux Foundation and Mark Radcliffe, partner at DLA Piper and General Counsel for the Open Source Initiative (OSI), we will provide an overview of pertinent virtualization technologies, how they work, the issues they raise and perspective on how to address them. |
