Tim Yeaton - President and CEO

Tim Yeaton - President and CEO, Black DuckTim Yeaton joined Black Duck Software in February of 2009, and brings over 30 years of software and technology management experience to his role as President, CEO and Director. Since his arrival, Black Duck has experienced over 30% annualized year-over-year growth, completed three major acquisitions, created a joint venture in greater China, and built a worldwide operation that includes nearly 200 employees with presence in 23 countries. Since 2010, Software Magazine has ranked Black Duck among the 500 largest software companies in the world. In 2012, the Boston Globe named Black Duck one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts.

Prior to joining Black Duck, Tim was Chief Marketing Officer at EqualLogic until its $1.4B acquisition by Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) in 2008, and as Dell’s Vice President of the Nashua (N.H.) Design Center, he led the integration of the two companies and managed Dell’s operations in the region.  Prior to EqualLogic, Tim spent several years at Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the leading provider of open source software solutions, as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing & General Manager of Enterprise Solutions. At Red Hat, Tim was instrumental in expanding its business into the developer and middleware markets with acquisitions of JBoss and MetaMatrix, and built go-to-market partnerships with companies including IBM, HP, Dell, Oracle, and several others. 

Prior to Red Hat, Tim was President, CEO and Director of Avaki Corporation, a venture-backed data management software company acquired by Sybase (NYSE: SAP). Before Avaki he was Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Server Products Division at Macromedia (Nasdaq: ADBE), via its acquisition of Allaire where he was previously Senior Vice President of Products.  Tim spent the early part of his career at Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: HPQ), most recently as Vice President and General Manager of Compaq’s UNIX/Linux and Middleware Software Division.

In 2009 Tim was named one of the Most Influential People in the Open Source Software Industry, in a survey by Mindtouch. In 2010 he was named a COPU Think Tank Advisor, which recognizes the key global thought leaders in Open Source Software. Also in 2010, the Mass. Technology Leadership Council named Tim a finalist for CEO of the Year.

In addition to Black Duck, Tim currently sits on the Board of Directors of Actuate Corporation (Nasdaq: BIRT), Monotype Imaging (Nasdaq: TYPE), and on the Roger Williams University Board of Trustees.  He was previously on the Boards of the N.H. High Technology Council, The Open Group, and the Open Software Foundation.  Tim holds an M.B.A. from Babson College, and a B.S., summa cum laude, from Roger Williams University.


 Ken Goldman - Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Ken Goldman - EVP and CFO, Black DuckKen brings more than 30 years of financial and operational experience to Black Duck. Before joining Black Duck, Ken was SVP & CFO of Salary.com, a company that he took public in 2007. Prior to that, he was a Principal with Mirus Capital Advisors, in their software industry investment banking practice, and the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Lodestar Corporation, a provider of enterprise software solutions. Earlier in his career, Ken held executive positions as Chief Financial Officer at Student Advantage, MediaMap, Shoplink.com, Liberty International Holdings, and Goldweitz & Company. Ken began his career as a CPA with KPMG.

Ken holds a B.S. degree in business administration from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Ken has served on several boards of directors including Salary.com, the Boston chapter of Financial Executives International, and Blitz Media. In 2009 Ken was honored as CFO of the Year by the Boston Business Journal. 


Bill McQuaide - Executive Vice President of Products and Strategy

Bill McQuaide - EVP of Products and StrategyBill has 20 years of technology experience and executive leadership spanning engineering, product management, marketing and business development. He comes to Black Duck after spending 10 years with RSA Security during which time the company experienced rapid growth. RSA Security was acquired by EMC Corporation in 2006. He most recently served as a Senior Vice President of the Enterprise Solutions Group and Corporate Development.

Bill’s previous experience includes four years at Hewlett-Packard, where he led the Product Management and Channel Development teams for the company’s Technical Systems Division. In prior positions, Bill worked for Data General, Stardent Computer and Apollo Computer, where he was instrumental in defining and launching successful hardware and software products.

 


Alan Facey - Executive Vice President of World Wide Field Operations

Alan Facey - EVP of World Wide Field OperationsAlan brings more than 25 years of experience building high-performance sales teams in start-ups and established software companies. Most recently, he was Vice President of Global Sales and Services at database auditing specialist Lumigent Technologies, where he established the sales and services organization and grew its worldwide sales by over 100% in under two years.

Prior to Lumigent, Alan was Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Services for content management systems vendor ClearStory Systems and interim Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at compliance solutions provider Obian. His successful career at application development and database leader Progress Software spanned nine years as Vice President, Europe, Middle East & Africa Operations, and later as Vice President, North American operations and global channels. Facey’s background also includes international sales and general management roles at Cleanwise, Holistic Systems, Lucas Engineering & Systems and Metier Management Systems.


Peter Vescuso - Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development

Peter Vescuso - EVP of Marketing and Business DevelopmentPeter brings over 20 years experience in marketing and executive management developing new markets and building brands. Prior to joining Black Duck, Peter was VP/GM of the Enterprise Business and VP of Marketing at Cantata Technology. Cantata was a leading provider of enabling communications technology formed in the acquisition of Brooktrout Technology by Excel Switching and was itself acquired by Dialogic in 2007.

Before Cantata Technology, Peter was Director of Marketing at Compaq Computer (before the acquisition by Hewlett-Packard) responsible for product marketing and market development in the Workstation Division. Before joining Compaq, he spent eight years in Hewlett-Packard’s Technical Systems Division in senior marketing, market development and strategic planning roles.

Peter earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the New York Institute of Technology and an M.S. degree at the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.


Andrew Aitken - Senior Vice President of Olliance Consulting

Andrew Aitken - SVP of Olliance Consulting, A Division of Black DuckAndrew Aitken is the Founder and Senior Vice President of Olliance Consulting, a division of Black Duck. He is a recognized expert on strategies for the commercialization of open source and has been a leader in the open source community for nearly 10 years. Andrew has more than 20 years senior management experience in building and leading national professional services firms, including Renaissance Worldwide and eWork.

In 2001 Mr. Aitken founded Olliance Group with other industry veterans to provide management and business strategy consulting to companies leveraging open source. In January 2006, Mr. Aitken spearheaded the software industry’s first “think tank” on the future of commercial open source, now an annual event regularly attended by the industry’s leading CEO’s and visionaries. Andrew has chaired and spoken internationally at multiple industry and government conferences on the topic of open source. Mr. Aitken has also participated as an expert witness on the issues of open source and e-voting to the California Senate. Andrew is on the Board of Directors of the Open Source Software Institute and the SDForum and is Chair of their annual Open Source Conference. Andrew is on the Board of Advisors of leading open source companies including SugarCRM, Funambol, Cleversafe, and Krugle. Mr. Aitken has personally advised firms such as IBM, Intel, Nokia, Microsoft, and dozens of VCs and startups on their open source strategies.


Andreas Zink - Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering

Andreas Zink - CTO and VP of Engineering, Black DuckAndi has spent seventeen years in the high technology industry, holding various technology leadership roles. He comes to Black Duck from Trelliswerk, where he served as Managing Partner and led the development efforts for two complex software applications in the data analysis field and the algorithmic trading market.

Prior to Trelliswerk he worked at Skyva International, where in the role of Development Director he led the company’s eCommerce platform & tools development. Skyva was acquired by the ABB Group in  Early in his career Andi worked at Deloitte & Touche and Comsoft GmBH as integration architect and software developer.

 


Tammi J. Pirri - Vice President of Human Resources

Tammi J. Pirri - VP of Human Resources, Black DuckTammi Pirri brings to the role more than 17 years of industry experience and is responsible for all Human Resources and Organizational Development activities at Black Duck.

Tammi previously served as Vice President of Human Resources for Managesoft, a privately held, enterprise software management solutions company which provided asset recognition, license entitlement, contract management and Software/OS development products and services. At Managesoft, she was responsible for leading the selection, development and retention of a global technology workforce. Previous to Managesoft, Tammi was Vice President of Human Resources at Clinsoft, a clinical trials software company that provided biotechnology and pharmaceutical organizations clinical trial tracking and services for drug approval. Tammi was part of the Executive Team, which led the successful acquisition of Clinsoft to Phase Forward. Prior to Clinsoft, Tammi held progressively senior roles at Ziff-Davis Publishing, AT&T Business Networks and Nets Inc.

Tammi attended Suffolk University' s Executive MBA program and holds a B.S degree in Sociology from Suffolk University.


Jim Berets - Vice President of Product Management

Jim Berets - VP of Product ManagementJim is responsible for the strategy, planning, and delivery of Black Duck's complete product portfolio including its flagship products Black Duck® Code Center™ and Black Duck® Protex™, as well as the Black Duck® KnowledgeBase™. He has over 25 years of industry experience in product management, sales engineering and software development management.

Prior to joining Black Duck, as Principal of Beaver Brook Consulting, Jim consulted to technology-industry clients on product strategy and definition, offer development, market and competitive research, and customer acquisition. Previously, Jim was VP of Product Management at CO Space, a data center services company (acquired by Internap Network Services); Director, Sales Engineering, BBN Planet / GTE Internetworking, where he managed the company's worldwide sales engineering team; and a Software Development Manager in BBN Technologies' Distributed Systems Technology Group.

Jim earned an SBEE degree from MIT; an MSEE from the University of California, Berkeley; and a CSS in management from Harvard.


Phil Odence - Vice President of Business Development

Phil Odence - VP of Business Development, Black DuckPhil Odence is responsible for expanding Black Duck’s reach, image and product breadth by developing partnerships in the multi-source development ecosystem. He is in charge of building the company’s growing network of international resellers and launched Black Duck’s legal certification program. A frequent speaker at open source industry events, Phil chairs the Linux Foundation’s Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX) working group and is a blogger for NetworkWorld http://www.networkworld.com/community/odence.

He came to Black Duck from Empirix where he served as Vice President of Business Development and in other business management positions. Prior to Empirix, Phil was a partner and ran consulting at High PerformanceSystems, a startup computer simulation modeling firm. He began his career with Teradyne’s electronic design and test automation group in product, sales and marketing management roles. 

Phil has an AB in Engineering Science and an MS in System Simulation from Dartmouth College.
